Michael Strong's Tribute to Laurel Burch
Her artwork is instantly recognizable, whether on a sweatshirt, a mug, or jewelry. And her vibrant images always bring a smile to the viewer. In his December 2007 class, Michael Strong paid a Tribute to Laurel Burch using his newest rubber stamp and the saturated colors that were her insignia.
Sherrill Kahn Workshops November 10-11
Artist Sherrill Kahn visited us the weekend of November 10th to 11th 2007, to teach two day-long workshops. Students spent an intensive day of demonstrations and hands-on experiences learning painting techniques that can be used on any surface in Painting Pizaazz-Painting Techniques From A TO Z. In Sunday's workshop, Creative Embellishments, students learned many techniques geared to embellishing their creative efforts.
Susan G Komen for the Cure Halloween Cards
Brenda and Kathy put on fundraising classes for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Participants made several Halloween-themed cards while helping to raise money to find a cure for breast cancer. The classes were Tuesday October 2nd and Monday October 8th 2007 here at Stamping Details. Thanks to everyone who came in and supported the cause!
Susan Mostek October 5-6, 2007
Susan Mostek visited us again, this time with three new classes. Student constructed a darling card "room-by-room," each tiny room embellished with stamped images, pop-ups and other ephemera, in her Itty-Bitty Room Card class. In Penny Black Watercolor Magic students learned a new and easy way of achieving the look of beautiful watercolor cards as Susan taught a technique originally developed by the talented designers at Penny Black. On Saturday students made two beautifully designed Pocket Tag Cards, including an original design by Susan!
Michael Strong Creates "Instant Artifacts"
We have lots of great teachers here at Stamping Details, and one of our many popular teachers is Michael Strong. If you can't get enough of Michael's craft projects from the classes he teaches here, you can see him on the Internet on Craft TV Weekly. Don't miss his September 2007 internet projects video, Instant Artifacts, which we sponsored! Watch Michael make a variety of vintage looking objects including faux tintypes, photo dog tags and tiny flowers to decorate some nostalgic cards and an evocative scrapbook page.
A Kat in the Hand Weekend August 24th-25th 2007
A room full of stampers joined Kat Okamoto, owner of A Stamp in the Hand, and Joyce Hazen for a fun evening of free demonstrations Friday August 24th 2007. On Saturday Joyce taught two classes: Basics and Beyond Color Blending and Microglaze Techniques, and Sumptuous and Elegant Book Card.
Magenta Classes August 8, 2007
Nathalie Metivier of Magenta came to town Wednesday August 8, 2007 to teach three fun classes. Students made Three Cards Magenta Style and used the newest products and techniques, including stamps, paper and metallic embellishments and learn several ways to use the wonderful Peel Off's stickers. Enhancing a single Floral Tile in different ways using a variety of coloring and cutting techniques was another fun class. And creating three Christmas Cards using stamps, papers and Peel Off's was yet another great Magenta class.
Kodomo Classes August 11-12, 2007
Stephanie Scheetz of Kodomo visited again to teach another four interesting and exciting classes. Students learned fabulous paper folding techniques while creating the most whimsical art book ever seen in Cool and Crafty Purse Book and Bingata Teabag Flower Card. Students learned how to repurpose small discarded gift boxes in the Dream Drawer Box and Puzzle Piece Art Card class. Sundays classes were Origami Art Box with Mini Cards and Vellum Bookmark Card, and Asian Art Book and Folded Vellum Envelope and Card.
Sandra McCall Here July 28-29, 2007
That's right, Sandy came back with another exciting set of fun classes! Sandy has a beautiful way with watercolors and her technique extends to Twinkling H20s as students learned in her Nostalgic Watercolor Cards class. Saturday afternoon, students created Painterly Prints using rubber stamps, resist inkpad, Eclipse tape, Vivid inkpads and markers. Ready to make some jewelry? Sandy always is! Students made a Fetish Necklace with Style Stones usinng colored pencils, rubber stamped images, and lots of found objects. Sunday was a full-day workshop with Sandy and Polymer Clay Play. Students learned Sandy's newest secret techniques including her quick way of bringing up a high sheen onto the clay without any sanding, buffing, or brush-on topcoat of any kind.
Michael deMeng Workshops and Art Talk
Visiting artist Michael deMeng, known for his assemblage art, taught two day-long workshops on July 13th through 14th 2007. Michael lead students through transformations of discarded materials and found objects using collage and painting techniques to create their own Soda Pop Icon on Friday and a Shoe Shrine on Saturday. Michael's Shoe Shrines sell for a thousand dollar... each student made one with him for $85. On Sunday many of our patrons joined Michael for his Book Signing and Art Talk and reception.
Tim Holtz Here June 8-10, 2007!
Tim Holtz came here to Stamping Details for a weekend of exciting fast-paced workshops! The fun and action started Friday June 8th 2007 with a demonstration and "Meet the Artist" opportunity. The rest of the weekend was filled with technique workshops: Exploring Alcohol Inks, Designing with Dabbers, and Discovering Distress; a couple of project workshops: Words & Windows, and Industrial; and one, well, nobody knew what the Mystery Class??? was going to be about - but as expected, it ended up very interesting and fun!
Anniversary Weekend May 18-20, 2007
We celebrated our 3rd Anniversary the weekend of Friday May 18th through Sunday May 20th 2007. We hope you came in and celebrated with us! Chris Cozen/Golden Workshops
Golden Acrylic Colors' Working Artist Chris Cozen returned to Stamping Details with three new workshops and a "remix" of her "Story Canvases" workshop taught on her first visit in 2006. Students went through the process of making a mixed media collage-assemblage project in the fast-paced Mixed Media Adventure workshop Friday May 4th 2007. Artists learned how to mix up those color combinations that eluded them in Color Mixing Magic the Golden Way, created a mixed-media collage from their own favorite photographic images on a gallery-wrapped canvas in Story Canvases: Remixed, and explored the processes involved in making hand-decorated papers during the full day Decorative Papers: 101 workshop.
Creative Quest Comes To Poway
Judy Ross and Kathie Shepherd, artists, teachers, and co-owners of The Creative Quest in Glendale, Arizona, visited us the weekend of April 28 to 29th 2007, and brought their special magic. Book lovers took Kathie's book making classes: making a Birthday Book to keep all their birthdays in a non-sewing book format, and binding a Connections Book using needle and wax linen. Judy's Friends Canvas project was an 11"x14" canvas with a 5"x5" canvas attachment, using beeswax for the assemblage. Using chipboard, students created their own file folders and housed five of them in a handled purse format in Fee Fi Fo File. Students created a shabby chic painting on a 7"x10" shadow box and made a tribute to nature with stamps, paint elements and adding just the right touches of natural elements in her Connections class.
Stampbording and Kevin Nakagawa April 14, 2007
Plus Stampscapes Trunk Show!
Evie's Stampbord class kicked off the April 14th 2007 weekend, and it was followed up with free Stampscapes demonstrations by Kevin Nakagawa. Kevin is the creator of Stampscapes, and is also the developer of the Stampbord application of the Ampersand Art line of fine art panels. He has been teaching landscape and scenic stamping classes for 14 years across the country and his demonstrations are always popular and packed. Students discovered stamping, embossing, and painting on Stampbords in Evie's class. Then Kevin did his fantastic Stampscapes demonstrations from 1 to 3 p.m. He also brought trunks of his Stampscapes stamps so everybody could buy their favorites.
Leslie Altman Workshops March 23-26, 2007
Mixed-media artist Leslie Altman returned in March with four new and exciting workshops. We have images on our web site of all her samples, including Sunday's Found Object Jewelry class. Students explored design techniques in Texture, Line, and Color ("TLC") to enhance your Altered Cards, Editions, and Originals ("ACEO's") in her Friday evening class. In the Inner Child class crafters created a Milagros (miracles) shrine out of a hinged metal book and adorned the cover with dimensional assemblage, and embellished the interior with charms and imagery. Go With The "Flow" and create colorful vibrant colored backgrounds for metallic embossed rubber stamping using alcohol inks combined with metallic pens on fabric, vinyl, papyrus, and decorative papers, was Sunday and Monday.
Beverly Seymour and B Line Designs Demonstrations (and Sneak Preview), Trunk Show, and Classes
Beverly Seymour and B Line Designs returned to Stamping Details March 16th to 18th 2007! The fun kicked off Friday with a trunk show, and at 6 p.m. with free demonstrations of new techniques and their just released stamp designs, plus a sneak preview of even newer designs that aren't even in production yet. The trunk show continued throughout the weekend - a "don't miss" opportunity to see and buy from their wide range of stamps, transparencies, walnut ink crystals, and other craft supplies. And for those who got our email with the Introductory Special coupon for our new Customer Appreciation Card, purchasing any B Line Designs product was worth five bonus points on their card. On Saturday and Sunday, Beverly taught more fun and exciting classes: Acrylic Attraction Tag Book, Purse Journal, and two 8 Card Blitz classes.
DeNami Spring/Summer Blitz Classes February 23/24, 2007
Did you catch the DeNami Blitz classes in February? Those who did got a jump on their greeting cards for spring and summer occasions and took home five beautiful cards in a lovely sheer bag in a 2-1/2 hour Mini-Blitz class Friday evening, February 23, 2007. Jen Lowe, aka "Lucy McGoo," did a full day of free demonstrations on the Spellbinders Wizard on January 25th 2007. It was also a "BYOW" (Bring Your Own Wizard) day of fun learning and experimentation with Jen – Wizard owners were invited to bring their own Wizards and dies to play along with Jen in a free open workshop all day long.
